What's Over Your Shoulder?

Recently the New York Times published a fun article in which the bookshelves of famous folks were visible over their shoulders during interviews. Check it out here . Despite my lack of fame, I figured I’d join in, hence my messy bookshelf up there to the left.

Review – "The Ten Thousand Doors of January"

“The Ten Thousand Doors of January” is the first novel of Alix E. Harrow, and it is a tour de force of lyricism. It is also historical fantasy, set mostly in the Victorian and Edwardian eras. Harrow is a former History professor and her understanding of the time period shows.

The Books that Made Me a Reader

Like many of you I’m sure, I’ve spent some of this time in isolation cleaning out drawers, closets, and bookshelves. Digging through  my old things got me thinking about the books I read in late elementary and middle school that made me the reader I am today.

While of course there are some books from a couple decades ago that are no longer available (some for good reason, I’m lookin’ at you Magic Attic Club), there are also books that stand the test of time. Here are just a few of these true classics:

Fantasy and Science Fiction: Escapism or Something More?

Hello! This is Dan Glauber, Adult Services Librarian, and resident science fiction and fantasy nerd. I started reading fantasy at a young age and it helped me get through a lot of difficult times. The written word can create doors to new worlds. In fact, this is the subject of the book I’m currently reading, “The Ten Thousand Doors of January” by Alix E. Harrow. But I’ll be discussing that book next week in my next video review.
