And the Winner Is...

The Caldecott Medal is awarded by the Association for Library Service to Children, a division of the American Library Association, to the illustrator of the most distinguished picture book of the previous year.  It is selected  by a committee of 15 librarians chosen from around the country and is one of the most prestigious awards given in all of children’s literature.

The Books that Made Me a Reader

Like many of you I’m sure, I’ve spent some of this time in isolation cleaning out drawers, closets, and bookshelves. Digging through  my old things got me thinking about the books I read in late elementary and middle school that made me the reader I am today. 

While of course there are some books from a couple decades ago that are no longer available (some for good reason, I’m lookin’ at you Magic Attic Club), there are also books that stand the test of time. Here are just a few of these true classics:

Animal Crossing Read Alikes

I’m not typically a player of video games, but we’re living in strange times. I, along with many others it seems, started playing Animal Crossing: New Horizons to connect with friends during this time of social distancing. The premise is pretty simple. You design a character and start a new life on a deserted island making choices about where to build a house, how to use the land, and which adorable anthropomorphic animals you want to live alongside you.
