Join us for the very first screening of this Scarsdale-based motion picture in decades. After being uncovered in the Scarsdale Public Library archives, 1,200 feet of 16mm film has been digitized and preserved by the Scarsdale Historical Society. Released in 1946, it chronicles how Scarsdalians united and rallied in support of the war effort in the 1940s. The film was created and screened as part of a fundraising campaign for Jewish refugee children.
Scarsdale in World War II not only presents a snapshot of Scarsdale life almost 80 years ago, but also captures Scarsdale's landmarks as they once appeared, including the only-known footage of some sites that no longer exist. The film was made possible thanks to Murray Silverstone, Scarsdale resident and then-president of Twentieth Century Fox.
The film will be presented as originally created. It contains language which may cause offense.
Sponsored by the Scarsdale Historical Society and the Scarsdale Public Library
