Event Details
The Scarsdale Youth Art Show (SYAS) is typically an annual, in-person event. The SYAS 2021 Winter Exhibit is Scarsdale's creative response to this atypical year. The online exhibit includes a curated collection of pieces from more than 50 local young artists, ranging from fourth-graders to recent Scarsdale High School graduates. Presented in a 3D virtual space which mimics a real art gallery environment, the exhibit allows viewers to get as close to an in-person experience as possible. Featured artworks span from whimsical pencil sketches to elaborate mixed media sculptures and cover a wide range of subjects and styles—from pastoral landscapes to portraits, from realism to fantasy, from pop to abstract. Many pieces focus on the themes of Covid times, the environment, and multiculturalism. This exhibition not only presents a beautiful gallery experience for art enthusiasts, but also serves as an outlet for young artists to showcase their passion, talent, and hard work.
The exhibition was curated and organized by Scarsdale High School students Olivia Liu, Crystal Feng, Marissa Meng, Vivirena Wang, and Heidi Li with the support of the Westchester Association of Chinese Americans and the Scarsdale Public Library.
This Zoom event will be a real-time tour of the exhibit led by curator, Olivia Liu, SHS Class of 2023. Several high school artists will be on-hand to speak about their work—sharing their inspiration, process, and meaning. Following the virtual tour, there will be time for open discussion and a certificate ceremony for all participating artists in the show.
By registering for and logging into this Zoom event, you grant permission to the Westchester Association of Chinese Americans to record your likeness, display name, and voice as they show on the host's computer. If you prefer to watch the recording later instead of attending in real time, the recording will be available to watch after the event.
