A sweet, well-rounded coming of age story that adapts its source material with deft care and good humor.
Celebrate a tender and affecting friendship with a screening and discussion of the 2022 Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe. Based on the 2012 novel of the same name by Benjamin Alire Sáenz, the film is directed by Aitch Alberto and stars Max Pelayo, Reese Gonzales, Eugenio Derbez, Eva Longoria, and Verónica Falcón. Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe follows the life of Mexican-American teenager Aristotle "Ari" Mendoza (Pelayo) in 1987 El Paso as he struggles with his identity and is frustrated by his parents' refusal to talk about his incarcerated brother Bernardo. At school, Ari strikes up a friendship with fellow Mexican-American Dante Quintana (Gonzales) and is thrilled by Dante's vivacity. When their summer of adventure comes to an abrupt halt, Ari makes a fateful decision.
Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe had its premiere at the 47th International Toronto Film Festival.
Please note that the film is rated PG-13 and may not be suitable for all ages, primarily for moderate profanity throughout and a scene of strong violence.
