Program Description

Event Details

Join us in the Scott Room for a family friendly Chinese language film. This program proudly works to provide Chinese families with an environment where their culture is celebrated and appreciated through films. Each film will be screened in either Mandarin or Cantonese with English subtitles.

For August, the film will be the 1995 historical dram The King of Masks. In 1930s China, Wang is The King of Masks, an aged street performer who practices the change-mask opera art of bian lian. He laments that he has no male heirs to carry on his mysterious and complicated art and trade. At an underground market, he encounters someone he believes to be an orphan boy, whom he adopts as a grandson and apprentice. Wang soon finds out the child is in fact a girl and initially tries to send her away. After much conflict, the two finally accept one another in this award-winning film of simple and beautiful power.

This monthly event is completely free, and refreshments will be provided!

This event is cosponsored by the OCA-WHV.
