Program Description

Event Details

BEL (name derived from the word belle in French meaning beautiful): Our movement focuses on empowering young patients diagnosed with leukemia and motivating them to encourage patients around the world who are diagnosed with the same illness to embrace their identity, finding beauty and confidence in who they are. Our goal is to create a chain of positivity and hope throughout as many hospitals in the world as possible. Our journey begins in Westchester, New York, our first event debuting as a program partnering with the Scarsdale Public Library.

By inviting people from the local community to paint and decorate different colored scarves, we hope that these works can be a symbol of hope, positivity, and a new start for children patients in the process of their recovery. These scarves will be delivered to the pediatric oncology doctors at the Guangzhou Women and Children’s Medical Center in Guangdong, China. Their young patients will then have the opportunity to express their creativity onto a new set of scarves which will be sent to the next hospital and the process repeats. We hope that these scarves may reach the hands of as many young patients as possible, please come and lend your creativity to our cause!

There may be a journalist present taking photographs and video. If you have any problems with being filmed or photographed, please feel free to deny your consent to the journalist and/or notify the librarian or the host and they will notify the journalist to exclude you from their recordings.

Note: Acrylic paints may stain your clothing or belongings, so please dress accordingly to attend this event.

Photography
