Program Description

Event Details

Author Jyoti Rajan Gopal shares the magic of saris, clothing from South Asia, that have remained virtually unchanged for thousands of years. During this program for all ages, she'll read from her picture book MY PAATI'S SARIS, about a little boy who loves his grandma's saris.  After, she'll do a sari-wearing demonstration (attendees can also volunteer to be draped!) and a book signing.

MY PAATI'S SARIS is a New York Public Library Best Books of 2022, A Bank Street Best Books of 2022 and a School and Library Journal Best Books of 2022, and has been shortlisted for the prestigious Neev Literary Award in India.

Jyoti Rajan Gopal is a writer, Kindergarten teacher and mom. Growing up, she lived in Thailand, Indonesia, Myanmar, China and India. She finally settled in New York where she raised two daughters with her husband (who also grew up all over the world). As a child, she adored and devoured books but did not enjoy writing. At all.  As a grown up, she is a forever kindergarten teacher and mom. She still adores and devours books. But now, she likes to write!

Other books by Jyoti: American Desi (illustrated by Supriya Kelkar, 2022) & Desert Queen (illustrated by Svabhu Kohli, 2023).  Coming next year: One Sweet Song (illustrated by Sonia Sánchez, 2024), Sister Day (illustrated by Fanny Liem, 2024), Love is Here With You: A Lullaby of Blessings (illustrated by Nabi Ali, 2024)

Registration will begin Sunday, October 22 at 8am.
