Earth Day is an annual event celebrated around the world on April 22nd to demonstrate support for environmental protection and to create an awareness of how our actions impact the planet. First celebrated fifty years ago in 1970 by 22 million Americans passionately committed to protecting the environment, it now includes events coordinated globally by the Earth Day Network in more than 193 countries.
Last Thursday, local author and writing instructor Barbara Josselsohn spoke to us about her latest book, The Lilac House. For a quick summary of her book click here. Twenty community members, including other local authors, joined us from the comfort of their offices, couches, and writing nooks to discuss the book and her process. She also shared her thoughts on publishing on the day that many of us found ourselves asked to stay home due to Covid-19.
Tulip time at Keukenhof Gardens in the Netherlands is glorious, uplifting and absolutely unforgettable. Sadly, the gardens are closed this year, but do take the virtual tour.

Poetry may not be an obvious ally in troubled times, but it can be a surprisingly reassuring source of calm and a simple tool for reducing anxiety. In that sense, poetry is perfectly suited to our current circumstances, and with that in mind, I would like to share poems I selected to uplift and inspire us. My hope is that reading and thinking about the same poems will connect us as a community, even though we are all apart, and offer a small measure of solace.
