During these times- officially coined NYS on PAUSE, which I simply call “Ack! No visitors?”- isolation can be a particular problem for seniors.
In case you missed our previous newsletters, we featured two programs focused on staying in touch. First, Scarsdale Edgemont Family Counseling Service is offering “Adopt a Senior ” through their Aging in Place initiative, this program includes volunteers making phone calls to local seniors to check in. If you know of anyone who might benefit, please reach out to Maryellen Saenger at msaenger@sfcsinc.org or 914-723-3281.
Another option is PenPals for Life. In our community, Scarsdale High School junior Matthew Knispel is leading the charge, rallying volunteers and participants. This program involves students and younger adults signing on to send weekly emails to an older adult/senior who may like an additional connection. Please visit here to sign up.
Our library is offering 3 more sessions of Monday evening Zoom yoga- simply register here, and we will email you with a link to join. We are also offering 1:1 Tech sessions via Zoom; again register and we will contact you to confirm a time to talk via Zoom. Finally, take a look at this extensive list of resources provided to us by the Center for Aging in Place. From Medicare counseling to meditation to games, click here for 6 pages of helpful links.
If you require support for yourself or a loved one, and you can’t find the resource within this blog, remember that you can email us and we will do our best to help!
