2009 Book Sale Is Great Success - Thank You!

The 2009 Friends of the Scarsdale Public Library Book Sale was a great success.  We would like to thank the many generous people who donated books to the Sale.  Thanks to the dedicated volunteers who sorted books all summer, manned the actual Sale, and cleaned up after the Sale.  Thanks also to the members of the library staff who helped us in so many ways.  And of course, thanks to our large, loyal, and ever-expanding membership base and all of the interesting and friendly bibliophiles and book dealers who came out in huge numbers to purchase books, dvd’s, cd’s and other miscellaneous, interesting items at the Sale.  It was a pleasure to meet so many of you.

People often ask us "What happens to all the books that are left after the sale?”  The answer is:  a large percentage of the remaining books are distributed to not-for-profit groups.  This year almost two dozen not-for-profits, from local Westchester libraries and schools, to a Native American Tribe, to the Girl Scouts, the Elmsford Animal Shelter, Teach For America, the Neighborhood Coalition for Shelter of NYC, and all the way to the Help for Kenya Project, received books from the Friends.

One aspect of the sale that is so rewarding to us is that the donating/purchasing/re-donating books cycle is a great way to recycle, and the Friends is committed to preserving this GREEN tradition!!  On that subject, please note that if it is convenient for you, and if you should so desire, we would be thrilled to accept your books as donations for next year's Sale beginning in July of 2010 and continuing through the end of August 2010.  Further information on book donations will be made available in future issues of our newsletter, Bookmarks, in our local newspaper, the Scarsdale Inquirer, and on this website.

We at the Friends wish you all a year filled with happiness!  We hope you have fun reading all of your newly-acquired books!!

We would be honored to see you next September at our 2010 Book Sale!!

Thank you to everyone!

Sincerely,

Ruth Kohn
