Children’s Room

Summer Reading begins June 22nd!

    • What is the summer reading game? It’s an incentive based program designed to keep kids reading all summer!
    • How do I sign up? Starting June 22nd, we will have a link on our homepage www.scarsdalelibrary.org. All registration is online.
    • How do I play? You read books & log them into your summer reader page (which is created when you register). As you log, your summer reader page will record how many stickers, prizes, and books you’ve earned. Every 2 books = a sticker, 5 books = a prize & 20 books = a book to keep! Come to the library throughout the summer to pick up your prizes!
    • If my child isn’t reading on their own yet can they still play? Yes! Pre-readers get prizes for books read to them.
    • What is a “listener”? A listener is your guide to the game. When you come into the library, they can help you register, show you how to log in books, and get you your hard earned stickers and prizes. But the most important part of a listener’s job is to listen to  your child as they tell about their favorite book. This aides in comprehension skills & builds confidence.
    • What else can I win? In addition to stickers, prizes & books, we raffle off giant prize baskets all Summer long.
    • How do I enter the raffle? There are two ways to enter the raffle! When you log a book, you will automatically be entered into the raffle that week. Every 5 books read equals 1 raffle ticket. The more you read, the better your chances of winning! In addition, each time you come to the library, check for the Word of the Day. You can enter the word under the “Challenges” tab on your summer reader page. Each Word of the Day entry equals 1 raffle ticket.
    • When does it end? The reading game officially ends on August 19th.
    • What if I’m out of town or away at camp when the game ends? Don’t worry! You can pick up your prizes through the end of August.
